I understand that Francine Burke, international licensing manager at DC Comics was dismissed from the company two weeks ago. Francine had worked at the comics publisher for eighteen years and for several years at Marvel Comics before that.
No official reason has been given, but there has been a noted tendency at DC Comics to remove certain long-standing employees at DC as, after many years of salary negotiation, has seen them sport impressive employment packages that a promoted junior or an externally sourced candidate may not be eligible for.
However a change in line with DC's recent more aggressive sales and marketing policies may be a factor, as well as the implementation of new technology has been introduced to streamline and standardise operations
Burke has been seen by some as the reason why certain lower-selling titles could still published at DC, especially at both Wildstorm and Vertigo, because of international publishing deals Burke had set up covering those titles. But DC's focus in streamlining how it sells itself as both a publisher and as a brand worldwide is changing and Burke is an early casualty.
DC Comics did not respond to enquiries.
