How To Appreciate George R.R. Martin At San Diego Comic Con Best
George R.R. Martin was listed in 2011 as one of Time Magazine's "most influential people in the world" and that was back 2011. In 2014, his presence at San Diego Comic Con is one of those things that makes the significance of the con felt. And yet there won't be that many people who have an up close and personal experience of this culture-shaper at the con so the few engagements he's able to make become that much more sought after.
One of them is, undoubtedly, his signing of his own comics at Avatar Press's booth (#2701 front and center on the show floor) on Wednesday, Preview Night at the con, at 6PM just as the show opens. There will, of course, be quite a clamor and demand for the signing, but there's one way to guarantee access and a set of his comics works for him to sign, and that's through the limited-to-35-sets only signing ticket and books package.
The package includes not only a reserved ticket for the signing, but three comics items from Martin's oevre and the guarantee of two more items to be signed. The 35 available sets are priced at $35.00 each and the books in the package are: a Skin Trade collected edition SDCC exclusive, from his new series In the House of the Worm #1, and the Fevre Dream collected trade paperback. If you purchase a set ahead, the books and signing ticket will be waiting for you at the Avatar booth when you arrive.
Having your books signed by George R.R. Martin on Previews Night strikes me as being one of the most enticing ways of starting off the con. To hear the great man discuss his work, you'll also want to plan ahead for this panel discussion on his work In the House of the Worm, being held on Thursday, July 24th, from 4-5PM in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.
Having Martin here really does epitomize the access SDCC offers for fans but plan ahead to make the most of his presence and gain insight into his work.
