24HourWatch: The Register Guard reports on one successful 24 Hour Comics Day event.

"I know I can do it," Schoolcraft said as he "inked" in the jet black hair on his comic's lead character, Argongrad, a warrior ambushed by his enemies in the wilderness. "It's just a matter of how much I procrastinate, going on walks, taking food breaks.

"I'd probably be done by now if I wasn't messing around."

Schoolcraft's motivation is that his finished work will be displayed at the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts — the host of Eugene's first-ever 24-hour Comic Day — for a few weeks in November. DIVA sponsored the weekend event to coincide with similar gatherings of comic book artists across the globe, carrying on a tradition that began in 1990 that participants say gives them a chance to drill down on a hobby that too often they put off.

The weekend's celebrity guest, nationally renowned artist David Chelsea, completed his 13th 24-hour challenge on Sunday. He says he first tried it because, with a family and career to distract him, his interest in drawing comics had a tendency to languish.

They say I am a work in progress. The fools.
