Using Traditional Comic Books In Traditional Jewish Art
The modern superhero comic book has its roots in Jewish culture and artists, before being taken on by the rest of the world and transformed into a mass market entertainment medium.
Well Isaac Brynjegard-Bialik is bringing it back home. He has combined comic books with the Jewish art of paper cutting to create new fusion art. Using the comics of Gil Kane, Jack Kirby, John Byrne, Alex Ross, Isaac recreates symbolic scenes from the Torah, and uses representative scenes from those comics to do so, such as the Pillar Of Cloud, the Pillar Of Fire, Flood, Revelation and Big Fish below.
Find more of Isaac's work at Nice Jewish Artist. An exhibition of his work opens today and runs until February 27th at the Merage Jewish Community Center of Orange County.
