Speculator Corner – Nonplayer Sells Out Before Shipping
Nonplayer, the new upcoming comic by Nate Simpson from Image, received a spate of publicity before the Final Order Cutoff date for retailers to place orders, when the print run was fixed. From Bleeding Cool, from Comics Alliance, from CBR, from all over. If the print run is set to meet the demand, the likelihood of it going up in value in the future is low.
However, while that worked to some degree, that publicity also seems to have also generated a flood of orders that came in after that date, mopping up the entire print overrun. And you know what happens next.
So, basically, an Image #1 book with a mass of publicity has sold out to retailers before it has come out. Again. And there is not enough supply to meet the demand,.
I've read #1 of Nonplayer, it is absolutely gorgeous, it already has buzz.
The only thing that may cause some to halt is that issue 2 is nowhere near finished yet. It is not even scheduled. Just the kind of thing that can damper demand over time. Which does of course leave plenty of scope for second, third and fourth prints.
But dammit, it's beautiful. As a result, this is what trying to get your own copy may entail on the 6th of April…
