Thursday Trending Topics: Superman And Dredd

I saw a comment today from someone who is not a diehard comic book fan that went something like this: "Wait, there's a new Superman? I'm just getting used to the new Batman and the New New Spider-Man."  Which I think is probably one of the side-effects of comic book news getting mainstream treatment alongside movie news.  Now we'll see if they take the next logical step of trying to report on the intricacies of comic book cannon & related topics as well.  There's probably a market for it.

We did see efforts by some newspapers and tv at trying to place Miles Morales in the context of Ultimate Spider-Man this week. A year or two back during the NBA season, in response to two players claiming the nickname Superman, one ESPN commentator went into a detailed explanation of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Which sort of made my brain explode, but perhaps it's a harbinger of things to come.

Also, before I forget — the first official Man of Steel pic brings to mind that early Action Comics classic shown at right.

Well that was fast.
