Tuesday Trending Topics: The Year Of The Avengers

Tuesday Trending Topics: The Year Of The AvengersOne of the interesting things about today's Avengers: X-Sanction announcement is the ever-tightening integration between Marvel comics and films that it confirms.  With the series ending in March, that gives them a couple months to spin up Avengers relaunch scenarios just as anticipation for the May 2012 release of the film is hitting a fever pitch. The choice of Jeph Loeb as writer on the project (and by extension, today's announcement seems to indicate that he will be helping to set the tone for Marvel next year in a major way), with his extensive background in film, tv, and comics,  further hints that Marvel has some tightly-integrated plans for 2012.  Add in the fact that Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 are set to follow up The Avengers at the theater next year, and it sounds like 2012 will be a good year to be an Avengers fan.

This Is What A Half-Million-Selling American Comic Book Looks Like

Yesterday, announcing over 200,000 sales of Justice League #1, DC declared it the best selling comic book of the year. I took issue with that, citing other graphic novels, trade collections, BD albums, manga volumes and digital comics. And got it in the neck for it. But there you go. "Comic book" does not just mean a printed on paper, non-perfect bound, under 50 pages, floppy magazine with comics in it.

Avengers: X-Sanction From Jeph Loeb And Ed McGuinness

Marvel Fires Grace Randolph As Their "Watcher"

I started getting complaints last week. That the weekly Marvel video show, The Watcher, was without its host and writer Grace Randolph, replaced by Ben Morse and Ryan Penagos – and was poorer for it. Maybe she was on holiday, maybe she was sick… or maybe she'd been fired.

Remake Rushes – A Collection Of Do-Over News

There's a lot of pictures in the remaking right now, with new ones being announced at considerable rate. Of course, Hollywood and the other international film factories have been playing this game since cinema was in its infancy, but the amount of money and effort being thrown at rehashing old brands these days seems to be getting near crisis point.
