Arthur Christmas is the first collaboration between Sony Pictures Animation and Aardman Animation, and features the voice talents of James McAvoy, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Staunton and Bill Nighy as members of the family Christmas living in the North Pole amidst a hugely complex and high-tech operation that's needed to get billions of presents delivered every year. The UK trailer has just arrived and is worth taking a look at.
If I'm wary of the film it's only because I don't like Christmas, I don't like children, and I don't like sentimentality (probably something to do with that soulectomy I had a few years ago), but from this trailer it seems like a pretty refreshing attempt to remind us all of what Christmas is really all about.
If you've got kids then this looks like a perfect seasonal adventure fantasy to take them along to. The release date is November 23rd, just in time for the holiday season. But if I ever reproduce I'm going to forgo the U-rated stuff and make my children watch Die Hard every Christmas eve, to ensure they're prepared for terrorist invasions.
Stay tuned for a write-up of my tour of Aardman's studios and the set of their next collaboration with Sony, The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists.
