Rewind Your Life…24 Hours At A Time

That's pretty much the idea that inspired my first ever Kickstarter comic book project The Undone. The Undone begs the question, "What if you could rewind time? What if you could basically get a do-over whenever you wanted?" Looking back at my career in comics so far, there is one particular moment in my life when I wish I could.

I started in the comics industry a way back in 2001 with a self-published book called Crossfire. But I didn't really "officially" make headway until I released The Sire back in 2006 with After Hours Press. My baby at the time, I was fortunate enough to release six issues and a trade from 2006-2008.

Utilizing my experience and connections with The Sire, I was also able to snag some awesome freelance gigs with Zenescope Entertainment and Image Comics the same year, building up my brand as a comic creator while managing to maintain a demanding day job as a web developer. That persistence led to an even bigger event the following year: my first ever Image Comics published, creator owned comic book called Descendant. My roots firmly planted in the industry, it looked like my dream of creating comics full time was about to become a reality.

Except it didn't… and I've only myself to blame.

Juggling my day job with my dream job (and deciding to also purchase a house around that time too) ultimately burned me out following Descendant's release. Couple that with the fact that I pompously assumed I had "made it" and instead of capitalizing on my new found success at Image, I decided instead to take the next year off entirely. And in an industry of, "you're only as good as the last thing you produced," I found myself back at square one when I returned to the field again in 2011. Looking back, it was the worst mistake I could have made, all because I let success go to my head.

Since then, I've spent the past three years getting my feet wet all over again. I decided to rejuvenate the Sire as a web comic on my site, mikebooks.com and accepted a freelance gig coloring the recently Kickstarter funded independent graphic novel The CruZader. It was that experience that inspired me to dip my toes into the Kickstarter campaign waters with The Undone.

Funding currently underway, The Undone tells the story of Dylan Sharpe, a man with the ability to (yep, you guessed it) rewind time at will – essentially getting a "do-over" in life whenever he wants to. But when he tries to cash in on his power, it pits him against a secret society of like-powered individuals who are none too happy that an arrogant punk is trying to muscle in on their territory.
