Scoop: Veronica Fish Leaves Archie, "Name" Replacement To Be Sought At San Diego

Industry sources tell me that regular Archie artist Veronica Fish is no longer the artist on the ongoing title written by Mark Waid.

She will still create covers and similar illustrations for Archie Comics but will no longer be the title's penciller after Archie #10, out on July 27th

Fish stepped in as the regular artist after Fiona Staples launched the book with Waid, and after Annie Wu did a notable fill-in to conclude the first four issues.

So for Archie #11 and #12 the next two issues, frequent Archie variant cover artist Thomas Pitilli will step in to join Waid, with help on breakdowns from Ryan Jampole.

The art looks to be very much in the "New Riverdale" style, and should hold the fort for a bit. See examples from Pitilli and Jampole below that Bleeding Cool has stumbled across.

I'm also hearing from various sources that Archie is putting on the full-court press to find a big name or rising star to take on the art duties regularly – and for other talent to pitch for new series.

With San Diego right around the corner, it might be a good time to reach out to the Riverdale gang to set a time to meet at the Archie booth and show your take on Archie and friends, or to dust off that Wilkin' Boy pitch…
