Speculator Corner: Memetic #1 Booms Thanks to Seth Rogen
We know that James Tynion IV has been on quite the hot streak at Boom Studios, with Something Killing The Children #1 joining Boom's exclusive 50K Club and then the whole series going back to press, with issue #1 hitting a sixth printing.
But as first reported by the Key Collectors App in late 2019 and then recently confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, it looks like Memetic, JT4's creator-owned series with Eryk Donovan at Boom in 2014, is being brought to the big screen courtesy Seth Rogen and the writer behind the upcoming The Batman movie, Mattson Tomlin. Last week, our friends at Key Collectors App sent this notice to readers that the Memetic #1 variant cover had skyrocketed to $235.
The only eBay listing for this particular 1:20 cover right now has it at $329.99 – and that's after sold listings that we have identified at $199.99.
But don't sleep on the regular cover either, which regularly sells for $34.99, in multiple instances from multiple sellers. That's the highest we've seen a Boom book spike with a development announcement and, like the variant, may just be the beginning.
There's been a lot of discussion about speculators joining Boom's readership, well, boom and betting on their recent hits like Alienated, The Red Mother, Folklords, Something is Killing The Children, Once & Future and Faithless – but it looks like you might want to also invest in some of Boom's older hits too because it seems like they're guaranteed investments (and quite a good read, too).
Now might also be the time to invest in some of those Tynion-related rare variants for Something is Killing The Children #1 and The Woods #1, the latter of which is in development with Syfy.
