(SPOILERS) The [Redacted] Ranger Joins The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers… And Is Not What You Think
A few weeks ago, Bleeding Cool mentioned that Boom Studios was advising retailers to up their orders on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #9, out today.
So what is it that is causing all the fuss?
It's the debut of the White Ranger into comic book continuity.
So what's been going on?
In MMPR canon, Tommy, the Green Ranger, started as a brainwashed bad guy working for Rita Repulsa, the original Big Bad of the TV show's first season. The Rangers broke her spell and he joined the good guys. The comic has been telling the story of Tommy's time, just joining the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
On the TV show, Tommy eventually loses his powers… so Zordon creates the White Ranger powers for him.
However, the comic book today revealed that not only does the White Ranger already exist… be he's a bad guy from the get go. The one who has been controlling their enemy Black Dragon – revealed to be a tech construct.
This White Ranger also sports a new look, emblazoned with the Dragonzord logo and Green Ranger designs associated with Tommy.
But Tommy has been sent elsewhere. To the White Ranger's own world…
Complete with hundred-foot tall statues dedicated to Rita and the Green Ranger.
Very Planet Of The Apes… Is that meant to be,.. our world? Either way, when it comes to Power Rangers, everything you knew was wrong.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #9 by Kyle Higgins, Hendry Prasetram and Matt Herms is out today… and will continue in January with issue 11 as issue 10 is a Christmas themed one shot…
Billy and Tommy are left powerless and trapped in a strange new world. Jason and the rest of the team must do all they can to track down their missing friends and bring Zordon back.
