Stan Lee Comes To The London Super Comic Convention
I think that's game set and match, isn't it? MCM London Expo, Kapow, Thought Bubble, the Bristol/Birmingham conventions, all can boast a number of star comic book guests coming to the UK.
But the newcomer in February, the London Super Comic Convention, organised by a bunch of comic dealers and a doctor in Essex has probably trumped them all with the first comic book convention appearance in the UK for Stan Lee for forty years.
I met Stan in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne when he was touring the UK doing publicity for Les Daniels' history of Marvel Comics in the very early nineties, and dicovered that his wife was a local lass from South Shields. So if anyone wants to try their Geordie or Maccam accents on the Man, they might get further than they might otherwise expect.
The convention boasts a number of big American names as well as the usual Brits, including George Perez, Jamal Igle, Howard Chaykin, Phil Jiminez, Tony Moore, Bill Sienkiewicz, Fred Van Lente, Bernie Wrightson and more.
But Stan Lee kinda puts the cherry on the cake, doesn't it? Even my mother has heard of him…
The London Super Comic Convention is held at the London ExCel on Saturday and Sunday, February 25th and 26th, 2012. No tickets on the door, all must be booked in advance…
