Steve Geppi to Give the Keynote Speech at Diamond's 2018 Retailer Summit – What Will He Say About 2017?
With over forty years as a comic book seller, President & CEO of Diamond Comic Distributors, Steve Geppi will draw upon four decades of personal experience to provide keynote remarks during Diamond's 2018 Retailer Summit, held in Chicago April 4th to the 6th at the McCormick Convention Center, just before the C2E2 comic convention from Reed POP.
By the way, apparently, you pronounce it with a soft G, not a hard G, as I have been doing for thirty of those years. Ah well.
Geppi's address will focus on "the Past, Present and Future of the Comics Industry" and take place at the closing breakfast on Friday, April 6th.
He says "I'm looking forward to delivering this year's Summit keynote address. I want people to be excited about our industry, with so many things ahead of us. Even more, I'm looking forward to talking with our customers and vendors about how we can improve the comic book industry and continue moving forward."
This comes after 2017 proved to be a down year for the comic book industry direct market in North America, losing sales and comic book stores. It os likely that this will be addressed.
Geppi started with a single comic book shop in Baltimore in the 1970s, moving into the distribution business when he established Diamond Comic Distributors in 1982. Since then, Diamond has become the largest distributor of English-language comic books, servicing thousands of retailers worldwide. Since Diamond's opening, Geppi has developed and added numerous additional pop-culture companies under the Diamond umbrella, including
Alliance Game Distributors, Baltimore Magazine, Diamond International Galleries, Diamond Select Toys, E. Gerber; Gemstone Publishing, Geppi's
Entertainment Museum, and Hake's Americana & Collectibles.
Now in its sixteenth year, Diamond's annual Retailer Summit is one of the leading events for comic book specialty retailers to meet with publishers and vendors and gather together with fellow retailers to discuss business. Top publishers such as Dark Horse, DC Entertainment, IDW Publishing, Image Comics, and Marvel Comics come and share exciting new projects, while retailers get to network and learn about new business practices to help them succeed and thrive in today's retailing environment.
And it looks like someone just read ComicsPRO's own press release about their event and wants to get in on the action.
