The Origin Of A Female Black Captain America In Spider-Gwen

In the first issue of Spider-Gwen, we met that dimension's version of Captain America, a young black woman running with the shield. But what is her story?

Well, thankfully Spider-Gwen #2 gives you exactly that at the back….

A world in which more than one recruit for the super soldier program were gathered…. and in which a powerless Steve Rogers was shot, leading to Samantha  Wilson to take the super soldier serum herself instead…

I have to say she looks pretty good on it. Add to that Sam Wilson in the current Captain America and Captain America 2099 who seems to have made it out of the Secret Wars Battleworld and into the 616 in Spider-Man 2099… and right now everyone using the name Captain America in current continuity is black. A white Captain America is now the unexpected move for Marvel.

It's amazing how much can change in such a short time, isn't it?
