The Starlight Tattooed Granny… But Is She Really? (UPDATE)

When launching Kick Ass, Mark Millar made a film about a real life superhero for YouTube as if inspired by the comic. It was faked. When launching Nemesis, Mark Millar faked an ad for the book on Times Square that wasn't true. When Superior launched he put up a photo showing Barack Obama carrying a copy of the comic. It was also fake. Now, launching Starlight, he has linked to a South London "granny" Elizabeth Hodge showing the world her back tattoo of the front cover of Starlight #1. And announcing her comics podcast every Sunday. This is her first and only video on YouTube.

But is she another Mark Millar fake? Here are your clues – it's the de-Flash Gordoned cover, only recently released in enough high res for a tattoo. And it would take several day long sessions for such a real tattoo to be created in that time, especially considering the healing process. The poster in question only launched a twitter account on February 23rd. This is her first YouTube video. Despite claiming to be in South London, she has a twinge of a Scottish accent, almost as if she's been exposed to it of late. Which is fair enough, but the decor of her house…

…seems to match that of Mark's house, in Glasgow, Scotland that he's posted. Cropped to remove shots of Mark's family.

If that's the case, could these tweets… be a little transparent…

Hmmm… I wonder if Mark Millar will "suddenly" be a guest on her podcast? You know, if you fake these things, you really should try seeding them earlier. I mean it could be all above board. But Mark Millar does have form in this regard… Either way, real or fake, it's still a good deal of fun!

UPDATE: More sleuthing from Little Bleeders in the comments.

  • Tattoos don't normally require a white base coat. Airbrushing often does.
  • White often also doesn't show up nearly this bright unless there have been amazing advances in white pigments in the four years since I got my last tattoo.
  • Her Profile picture from Feb 23 was taken the same time as she recorded the video (supposedly Feb 27) or she only has one top.

But we are happy to see where she gets her comics news from!
