There are now to be just two DC distributors of monthly serialised comic books, UCS (formed by Midtown Comics) and Lunar (formed by DCBS) handling all of DC Comics' monthly output. It seems hard not to recall Marvel and Heroes World, but both those organisations were already solid online sellers, shippers and distributors. Will either go for a UK hub? No idea yet.
UCS is the more professional looking one, when it comes to websites and presentation, but Lunar has a larger operation. For American customers, which is cheaper may be determined by your state, but you get to make that choice. You just can't use Diamond anymore which, given they still distribute Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, IDW, Boom and everyone else, would have become everyone's de facto choice if DC hadn't made this move. You can read all the gossip here, but UCS has also stepped up to the mark ahead of Lunar in getting out their official communication.
We are proud to be a premiere distributor chosen by DC Comics to distribute their periodicals and graphic novels to comic shops in the United States. At UCS, we will continue our premium standards to meet your needs and expectations in this transitional period. We look forward to working with each and every one of you to help grow the industry that we all love.
To give time for retailers to sign up for an account, DC and UCS have suspended this week's FOC (originally due on 6/8) and will resume FOC orders the following week (due on 6/15). This will allow additional time for retailers to get approved for an account and they will be able to order product without missing anything. As a result, there will be no new DC periodicals shipping the week of June 30th
