Uncanny X-Men #5 Gives Plaintive Foreshadowing Of Avengers Vs X-Men
Okay, I like the new Uncanny X-Men. Entwined in inter-book continuity, it doesn't need any new knowledge to pick it up. The Storm and Namor dialogue is possibly the very best in superhero comics right now. And we have a new Savage Land, an area of the country isolated and taken forward in evolutionary time to create a whole new world to fight in.
But there's one scene…
You see, as comic readers, we know what's coming. Diamond Previews gives us synopsese of future issues three months in advance, publishers have to advertise to retailers ordering copies at the same time as the reader, or site like this one will just leak it. Until Marvel start soliciting books as X-Men Title #34 (TBA) that's the way it's going to be. So we all know that Avengers Vs X-Men is coming. Which takes a scene like the following which, on its own would seem like an indication of the Heroic Age, of superheroes getting on, helping each other, working in the same universe. But the knowledge we have transforms it into something melancholic, despite nothing in the scene indicating such.
Nice one.
