X-ual Healing: Glob Herman Catfished in Old Man Logan #40

Note: We missed Old Man Logan #40 when it came out, so recapping it now to catch up for this week's Old Man Logan #41.

Old Man Logan #40 opens with Glob Herman hopping in a cab. He's got a bomb strapped to him, and the Purifiers are forcing him to bring it to the Xavier Institute to help them kill all the kids there while the X-Men are off saving the world in four different ongoings. The Purifiers hold Glob's date hostage, which as far as things go with online dating, isn't the worst possible first date ever. But it's up there.

When Glob arrives back at the mansion, the other students — Rockslide, Anole, and Shark-Girl — assume his date must have gone poorly due to his sullen mood and trenchcoat. Logan, however, can smell the C4. He doesn't reach Glob in time before he walks into the entrance of the school and detonates the bomb. Luckily, no one was hurt, though the foyer is going to need some remodeling.

Glob explains that the Purifiers kidnapped his date Sasha and forced him to wear a bomb to blow up the security center. Before he can finish explaining, the Purifiers arrive and start shooting up the school. Thanks, NRA!

It turns out the bomb was laced with EMPs, which take out the power in the school and any automated security systems. Logan sends Anole to get the less powerful kids to the Danger Room and he mobilizes Cecilia Reyes, Rockslide, Shark Girl, and Glob to take care of the Purifiers. Isn't this the same guy who once lectured Cyclops about using kids as soldiers? Well, same guy, different dimension.

As the battle rages, a few Purifiers make their way inside and start torching the place with flamethrowers. Glob and Anole confront two of them, only to learn one is Glob's date, Sasha. Bummer.

Sasha tells Glob that he's unloveable and desperate and that's why they choose him for their plan. Glob is resigned to let Sasha torch him, but Shark Girl arrives and punches her out. Logan is shocked that Anole didn't stay with the kids in the danger room.

At that moment, the Purifier leader has found the danger room and is about to murder everyone. Logan and the team rush to stop him, but he's holding Eye Boy hostage. Glob charges and takes him out.

Later, Glob and Logan sit outside the school as Logan consoles Glob. Logan tells Glob that the X-Men are his family, and that one day, he'll find a girl that sees him for who he is. Then he rides off on his motorcycle. The end!

The Bottom Line

Too bad about the date for Glob, but we agree, if Logan can find someone to love him, it should be no probably for Glob. It was nice to see Logan interact with the kiddies for this storyline. Now: back to him dying and stuff.
