Bethesda Bans Several Fallout 76 Players For Life After Homophobic Attack

Some Fallout 76 players just got a free lesson in being decent human beings after a homophobic attack got them banned from the game for life. A couple of weeks ago, this post was loaded up on Twitter by someone asking how they can report players for homophobia. What the video shows (and we do caution that it has strong language) is a set of players declaring that "we have come to eliminate all gays", and proceed to shoot other player's characters. What follows after is a homophobic tirade mixed with team killing. The game's voice chat is conducted by proximity, meaning like real life, if you're nearby you can hear anyone that speaks within a certain radius unless you outright block the player. So the Twitter post picked up not just who said it by looking around, but what everyone said.

According to Eurogamer, a couple of the players who were witness to the incident tried to report the incident to Bethesda but ran into issues with their website when reporting it. The tweet eventually made its way to people on the team along with the initial report ticket, which originally got all of the players involved a three-day suspension. But a Bethesda rep followed up to say that all had been permanently banned.

"We gave an initial ban of three days while our CS team looked into the matter further to verify the individuals involved and what took place," a Bethesda spokesperson told Eurogamer. "After additional review, we have now permanently banned the players we've identified."

Bethesda has a code of conduct for the game in their FAQ, so this kind of behavior is covered and well within their rights to remove players over. The lesson here: Act like a normal person in the game and not harass people with forms of homophobia, racism, sexism, etc. Otherwise, you'll end up banned and out $60 on a game you can't get back into.
