We Give The 'Renowned Explorers' DLC Another Go Before New Content Possibly Arrives

Renowned Explorers: International Society was a pretty cool adventure RPG that had you looking across the globe for new civilizations and treasure while building a crew of hearty adventurers who would do anything to explore the globe. If you've had a chance to play then you know it can be fun, but also has a degree of difficulty that can become a hassle. And for those who have beaten the game, there's a wish for something more. Earlier this month, Abbey Games hinted that some new content was coming and released the main game and the DLC called "More To Explore" for reviewers to check out. So we threw on our exploration gear and headed in.

The DLC gives you two new primary expeditions: Andean Adventure and Lost Island. The first takes you through parts of South America as you explore Incan civilizations, while the other is an island shrouded in mystery that you'll have to uncover to determine what the true purpose of the island is and where the treasures are located. Andean is pretty basic with new mechanics, enemies and traveling options attached. A lot of your exploration is about finding out how the inhabitants survive and how you can get your hands on precious treasures they hold so near and dear. It would be kind of cool if there was some educational purpose to it, but it's just your imagination of what it was like a couple centuries ago.

Speaking of treasure, there are a lot of options as to what you can find, and the DLC adds extra materials on top of them. Let's say you take up an adventure and end up getting some carved statue. The DLC will add bonuses below it to give you additional options to help out your party or take on new quests. Something else that got an upgrade was the enemies, as they now have a lot more options in combat to make your party weak and disable certain members. You're doing to find yourself dealing with a lot more practical combat strategies than before.

A new addition to the DLC was the Campfires. During the night you can gather around and learn more about your party members, giving their characters more depth than just "guy who speaks this language." Depending on the options you choose, it will have an effect on their skills as well as the adventure you're on, which can be beneficial or may hinder your progress. Campfires don't happen often, and depending on where you use one, it could have a profound change on what you end up doing.

There's a lot more to the DLC like the way you travel between places and the upgrades to the system, but overall the "More To Explore" download is going to make the adventure much more worthwhile. There's a nice mix here of RPG, exploration, adventure and story to make it a well-rounded game that a lot of different players could enjoy. I say give the game a shot when you get a chance and see what you think.
