Lost & Found: You Can Now Play 'Primal Rage 2'
If you're an arcade fan of the '90s, there are there are probably three fighting titles that stick out in your mind: Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, and Primal Rage. (If any of you said War Gods, I swear…) The first two became major franchises while the third had a novelty run in the arcades, a crappy console release and then puttered out after Atari Games' relationship with Time Warner came to a close and they moved onto working with Midway Games. A sequel was planned and even created but was scraped in 1997. There were stories of two whole arcade machines made for it, making the title ultra rare, until one of the boards popped up in Illinois back in 2014.
Now those wishing to play Primal Rage II can do so online as the game's ROM and an emulator to play it on have become totally free to download. Just in time for the 20th Anniversary of its cancellation, the game looks like it abandoned the stop-motion animation that helped define the look of the original and went for a different graphic design that borders on Killer Instinct: Gold. The game is rumored to be hard as hell, but online videos of it show the game can be beaten in about 30 minutes if you know what you're doing.
