Apple Launches "Apple Arcade" Monthly Game Subscription Service
Given the wide appeal for mobile gaming, it was only a matter of time before Apple decided to join the other videogame giants in launching their own subscription service in Apple Arcade at the company's event at its Cupertino, California headquarters. Originally revealed in March 2019, Apple Arcade will be made available for purchase in the App Store for unlimited access for $4.99 a month and launching with over 100 exclusive games.
Targeted "for the whole family," the service will include a free one-month trial. Among the titles available will be Frogger and Toy Town from Konami, Capcom's Shinsekai Into the Depths, and Annapurna Interactive's Sayonara Wild Hearts described as a playable music video, Monument Valley from Ustwo, Alto's Adventure from Snowman.
Games that redefine games. Apple has joined forces with some of the world's most visionary developers. Together, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible to create the games of their dreams — and yours.
Apple Arcade will also feature titles from various publishers like Bossa Studios, WarnerMedia's Cartoon Network, Finji, Giant Squid, Illusion Labs, Klei Entertainment, Lego, Mistwalker Corporation, Sega.
Apple Arcade will join the ranks of other monthly game subscription services like the major console rivals in Sony's Playstation Plus and Playstation Now, Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass, and Nintendo Switch Online. Google is exploring the idea of a subscription service. Some third-party video game companies like Ubisoft offer their own subscription services with Uplay. Electronic Arts offers EA Access and Origin Access. Twitch Prime is bundled with a subscription to Amazon Prime.
If those major services aren't your cup of tea, you can always go more independent with Humble Monthly, and Utomik. Amazing how anyone really keeps up on top of standalone games with monthly subscriptions like MMOs and freemium-related titles. What services do you use? Which ones do you think give you the best value?
Apple Arcade launches September 19th.
