Nintendo Still On The Fence About Giving You A Virtual Console On The Switch
Nintendo released details about the new Nintendo Online Service, which will cost players $20 a year and feature a selection of old-school titles to play on the Switch. However, this should not be mistaken as a replacement for the Virtual Console, which Nintendo are seemingly still on the fence about.
In an interview with Famitsu, a spokesman for Nintendo basically confirmed that the two are separate programs and that the company is still undecided if the Virtual Console will be making an appearance on the Switch. For fans of the program, the inclusion of the program would guarantee a new set of Nintendo fans rushing to buy the system, as they know the Wii U's shelf life is pretty much doomed within the next year and systems like the 3DS are only receiving sporadic updates to the service with no plans in the works to revamp or change anything.
Adding a Virtual Console app to the Switch so people could purchase classic titles and play them on the go, much like some do for the 3DS now, would be ideal. And it would be another chance for Nintendo to make money hand-over-fist with people who got back into Nintendo with the system and want to play retro games. To us, it makes sense, especially since the software is already in place and transferring control and games to a Switch for current users doesn't seem like it would be a major hassle. Why Nintendo would drag their feet to make it happen is baffling.
