Riot Games Forms New Partnership With The Crisis Text Line
This morning, Riot Games announced they had formed a new partnership with the digital mental health service the Crisis Text Line. Through this new partnership, players can text the word RIOT to 741741 to be connected with a trained Crisis Counselor. The partnership comes after Riot polled their own playerbase and found that "good health and mental wellbeing" was a top social value among the community. For those of you who are not familiar with this service, the Crisis Text Line is a free, confidential, support for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis. Their team of trained counselors are available to text and respond 24/7 and can support many types of issues. Those include suicide, self-harm, depression/sadness, anxiety/panic attacks, isolation/loneliness, grief, bullying, emotional abuse, substance abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse. Here's a couple of quotes from both companies about the new partnership that starts today.
"We're excited to partner with Crisis Text Line to provide players real, accessible resources when they or someone they know may be in times of crisis," said Jeffrey Burrell, Director of Karma (Social Impact) and Executive Director of Riot Games Social Impact Fund. "Suicide is a leading cause of death for people under 35 around the world and we hope that this partnership can reach more people during their times of need."
"We are thrilled Riot Games is making this commitment to providing their players, and gamers as a whole, better access to resources during times of crisis," said Bob Filbin, Co-Founder & Chief Data Scientist at Crisis Text Line. "As more people play video games now than ever, we want to make sure this vast audience has resources available to them in a text-based approach that aligns with their communication preferences."
