The Cards Of Pokémon TCG: Forbidden Light Part 2: Fennekin Line

Bleeding Cool's journey through the Sun & Moon era of the Pokémon TCG continues. Now that our spotlight series has moved through the first six sets of this block (Sun & Moon base, Guardians Rising, Burning Shadows, Crimson Invasion, Ultra Prism, and Shining Legends), now it's time to look at a set released in the middle of the era. Sun & Moon – Forbidden Light was released on May 4th, 2018. It had an array of focuses including Ultra Necrozma as well as the Kalos Legendaries of Zygarde, Yvelta, and Xerneas. This set also continued the inclusion of Prism Star cards which could be pulled by lucky collectors in the reverse holo slot. Today, let's kick off our retrospect with early cards in the set.

Sun & Moon – Forbidden Light has a strong focus on Kalos, including the Kalos Starters and Kalos Legendaries. To me, one of the strongest selections of cards in the set isn't even the Ultra Rares, but the Common/Common/Uncommon/Holo Rare Fennekin line. This includes two Fennekin cards, including one super nostalgic depiction and one painterly, pastel version. The card all the way to the right may seem like a vintage card because it is done in the style of Base Set and other WOTC era sets. The artwork used is stock art by Ken Sugimori over a digital background, which is something we saw all the time back then. I'm a much bigger fan of the Fennekin card that comes after that in the set, which has a sort of hazy, dreamlike vibe and an incredibly happy depiction of this Fire-type Kalos Starter. Then, we get the evolutions: Braixen gets a badass action pose while Delphox gets the most stunning holo of this Pokémon TCG expansion with a sort of late series Harry Potter movie vibe. All in all, this is one of the strongest lines in the Sun & Moon era.
