6 Marvel Film Release Dates Set By Fox — Start Your Guesses
When we say "Marvel Films by Fox," you know that means X-Men and co., right? Not Iron Man? Not The Avengers? Just making sure.
The folio of Marvel comic titles that Fox still owns the film rights for is massive and mutant-tastic, meaning that as long as interest for funny paper film adaptations keeps the box office rolling, there is no telling how many superhero movies we'll end up with.
After massive success with Deadpool, Logan and semi-success with the last X-Men film X-Men: Apocalypse, the studio giant announced a set of release dates slated for Marvel films: June 7th, 2019; November 22nd, 2019; March 13th, 2020; June 26th, 2020; October 2nd, 2020; and March 5th, 2021.
Theoretically at least one of those may be a third Deadpool, hedging bets on the previous success of the Ryan Reynolds starring anti-superhero film and the possible success of the in production sequel. Reynolds mentioned to Variety in a recent interview, "We have outlines and stories for a number of different films."
We knew that other Marvel/Fox films have release dates already, so these six dates from today are not those. We'll be getting The New Mutants on April 13, 2018; Deadpool 2 on June 1st, 2018; and X-Men: Dark Phoenix on November 2nd, 2018.
Expectations are that at least one of those dates could be a placeholder for the on again off again Channing Tatum led Gambit standalone film, the ragin' Cajun of the X-Men team. False starts and directorial changes continue to plague the project, it's been left for dead at least twice but refuses to go away.
Another popular (and persistent) rumor is the continuation of Dafne Keen's Logan character Laura's story as X-23. The young actress was such a surprise powerhouse performance, and the audience's positive reactions to her would probably make this a safe bet. If not a solo film about her, at least putting her in a read role in another X-Men film seems likely.
Depending on how well Zazie Beetz does Domino in Deadpool 2, that'd be another likely option.
No one is really talking about another Fantastic Four film, because it seems like no one can get those movies to go well, but Fox just won't let the franchise die.
Which films would you like to see? Any super deserving characters or storylines you'd like to happen *cough* Hellfire Club *cough* We'll let you know what we learn in the coming weeks about possible titles, and expect several of these slots to be announced during San Diego Comic Con.
