'Also Known As' – Film Announced And Graphic Novel Planned For San Diego Comic Con 2016 (VISUAL UPDATE)
Imagine losing the one you love, only to find that everything you believed about them was a lie. That's what happens to Cavalry Officer Lucas Wilson at the start of Also Known As, as he watches his wife Elizabeth murdered before his very eyes, just moments before he's hanged by his corrupt commanding officer Nathaniel Monroe.
Offered a chance to redeem his broken soul, Lucas is recruited by Charon the Ferryman, otherwise known as Death to reap souls for him, on the condition that once he's finished, Lucas can join his wife in Heaven. And for a hundred years, Lucas does this – working in a race against time to gather souls for Heaven before Charon's enemy Cerberus and her demonic Rogues can drag them to Hell.
But, a century later, Lucas finds himself facing his long-dead wife, now reincarnated into a new body, Faith Jones. Realising that everything he's been told is a fallacy, and knowing that everything that was 'Elizabeth' is now gone forever, Lucas goes against his orders, saving Faith and starting a journey to learn the real story behind Charon and Cerberus, one that not only reveals the truth about them, but more importantly the truth as to where the souls really go when they're claimed.
Hunted by Charon's psychotic enforcer Thade and the reanimated Nathaniel Monroe, Lucas and Faith must place their lives in the hands of long believed dead allies, chivalrous knights and traitorous friends as they try to find a way to not only stop Charon and Cerberus, but to save every soul ever taken by them.
But at what cost?
Based on an original idea by Andrew Nicholaou, Also Known As is a science-fiction twist on a supernatural mainstay, a film and trans-media franchise currently in development by UK-based producers BoxFly Pictures.
In addition to this BoxFly are producing a 110 page graphic novel to be launched during 2016's San Diego Comic Con, adapted by the film's screenwriter and comic book writer Tony Lee with art by Christopher Jones, colours by Charlie Kirchoff and letters by Aditya Bidikar.
"When we first brought Tony in to rewrite the screenplay, his background as a comic writer interested us immensely," said Haydn Pryce-Jenkins, Director of BoxFly. 'We always saw this as a trans-media franchise, involving film, comic and a variety of games, all set in the same world and focusing on the war between Rogues and Reapers. When we decided to push forward with this, Tony brought to the table some top-notch art teams, including Christopher, Charlie and Aditya. When we saw their work together, we knew we had something special."
With print media including the Also Known As graphic novel and the development of several video and card-based games connected to the franchise, BoxFly is currently finalising deals with several companies before announcing the book's publisher.
"We're hoping to announce in the New Year," continued Pryce-Jenkins. "Before that though, we're working with everyone to have an exclusive ashcan ready for the London Super Comic Con in February, before launching the finished book at San Diego in July."
