Dazzler To Appear In X-Men: Dark Phoenix
In X-Men Apocalypse, there was a deleted scene that showed Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and Scott Summers (Tye Sheridan) in a record store at the mall and finding a Dazzler album. Turner showed a still from the scene with Cyclops holding the album and made a "pre-1989" reference that many fans took to mean that Dazzler was Taylor Swift.
Now EW.com is confirming that the next X-Men film, Dark Phoenix, will include the character of Dazzler. The film will focus on the classic Dark Phoenix saga from the comics. Casting notices went out and a character that sounded like Dazzler was included. The mutant pop star can manipulate light as well as sing, dance and roller skate. But the role is said to be small and there are not plans for Swift to play her.
Simon Kinberg will be directing as the movie begins shooting this summer. Alone with Turner and Sheridan, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Alexander Shipp and Kodi Smit-McPhee will star. There have also been reports that Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the film's villain. It's slated for release on Nov. 2, 2018.
Dazzler was created by a committee of Marvel talent including Tom Defalco and John Romita Jr. for the purpose of making a cross-promotional character between Marvel and Casablanca records to tap into the popularity of disco in 1980 and for a potential feature film. She grew past her disco origins and became a popular member of the X-Men universe.
