Fantastic Beasts Producer Negotiating To Create Live-Action 'Attack On Titan'

It seems that Hollywood is continuing looking to Japan as a source for content. Warner Bros. and Fantastic Beasts producer David Heyman are in negotiations to secure the film rights to the popular Attack On Titan. Created by Hajime Isayama originally as a 21-volume manga, it has since been turned into an 25-episode long anime series and a two-part live-action film adaptation.

The story follows the remnants of humanity a century after the appearance of the Titans, giant mindless humanoids whose sole purpose of existence seemed to be to devour humans. The survivors have responded by constructing three concentric walls: Wall Maria, Wall Rose and Wall Sheena, which has kept the monsters at bay. However, one day a Colossus Titan far larger than any other seen before breaches the outer wall, allowing the smaller Titans to invade and forcing the survivors to retreat further to the inner walls while a small force of defenders attempt to find a way to drive them back or defeat them.

The Warner Bros. project would be a be a redo of the 2015 live-action films. Attack on Titan has an established US fanbase from the anime and to a lesser degree the films, with fan meetups and cosplay gatherings occurring regularly at anime conventions around the country.

Hollywood has one anime-port ready to be released later this year with Paramount and Dreamworks having teamed up to bring Ghost in the Shell to Western screens on March 31st.
