First Trailer For Jeff Bridges' Adaptation Of The Giver
Phillip Noyce directed the newest YA adaptation, but it's Jeff Bridges who bought the rights to The Giver and has been trying to make it for 20 years, basically since the book came out.
Unlike many of the YA novels being turned into movies today, this book is a classic to my mind, and I have very fond memories of reading it in elementary school. So it's rather alarming that this trailer looks absolutely nothing like how I imagined the world created by Lois Lowry.
Big changes have definitely been made, maybe the least of which is that Brenton Thwaites, 25 year old actor, is playing Jonas, who's 12 in the novel but 16 in the movie. The difference is rather striking, as is the fact that it's all in color when the fact that most everyone – except The Giver and Jonas – perceive things in black and white was a huge component of the books.
Ah well, can't win 'em all. The Giver will be released on August 15th in the US, no UK date yet.
