Gotham City Sirens Might Be Superceded Or Reconceived, But Still In Development

This week we got the announcement of not one but two DC movies: a "Joker Origin" film, and a Joker and Harley film. The Joker and Harley film announcement also came with a general impression that Gotham City Sirens might be cancelled. At least, that's how recent revelations have been interpreted, though it's important to note that's not exactly what's being said. Variety phrased it as 'superceded', while the Tracking Board noted it 'has been reconceived'.  And now, according to Forbes comes word that Gotham City Sirens is indeed still happening.

This is the quote they got from Warner Bros:

Harley, Catwoman and Poison Ivy are super important to us– And a super cool team, too!

Gotham City Sirens Might Be Superceded Or Reconceived, But Still In Development

Forbes goes on to speculate that the Joker/Harley movie could lead into a break-up between the two characters which leads into Harley joining Catwoman and Poison Ivy in the Sirens movie. The relationship between Harley and Joker is hugely problematic, and if their movie ended with Harley realizing that and breaking away it would do a lot to redeem the movie in the eyes of people against it. Thus far the DC Extended Universe hasn't touched on how twisted that dynamic really is, not in a way that counts, and if their big "mad love romance" movie ended with Harley telling Joker where to shove that would be impressive. It would help Harley define herself outside of the Joker, she's much more interesting on her own, and make her a much more likable lead character for the Sirens movie.

The current rumors suggest that Suicide Squad 2 and this Joker/Harley movie are being fast-tracked into production. We don't know the exact timeline for all of these DC movies right now and once we do we can get a better idea of what to expect from some of these productions.
