Has Lucifer Found Salvation In A Storage Container?

This article contains some spoilers if you are not up to date on Lucifer.

I've been watching Lucifer since its debut on Fox and I wasn't sure why. Other than Tom Ellis' portrayal of the devil there really wasn't much going on. The supporting characters were all one-dimensional at best, the police procedural portion of the show contained now mystery or twists and over the last few episodes even Lucifer Morningstar had become whiny and boring. I was about done.

And then Monday happened.

They added something new to the show… a story. We've had this wanna be protagonist running around for weeks having a laugh and enjoying himself while Amenadiel and Mazikeen tried to convince him to go back to hell and Detective Decker just wanted him to go away. But then about two weeks ago we got to see Lucifer's bare back and the scars from where his wings used to be. He even flinched when Decker touch the scars, but it was a short scene and everything moved on.

On Monday's episode a storage container is stole and a guard is murdered. Lucifer doesn't care until he finds out that it's his storage container. He works with Decker to get it back and we see duality of their relationship starting to grow… she likes working with him but she doesn't trust him. And since stolen container was at a place criminals use to store things, the contents of the container becomes an issue. He tells her the container is full of Russian dolls which she doesn't believe until they find the container and sure enough, there is a chest full of Russian dolls. Decker leaves and Lucifer then looks into the secret compartment which is now empty.

Someone has stolen his wings. Someone specifically went out and stole them, knowing they were there. Lucifer can now be a true protagonist as there is now an antagonist to go up against. The show worked best in the pilot when Lucifer was angry about the girls death, but with that intensity lost the preceding episodes were lacking. But with his wings gone, Lucifer now has a reason to be angry and a mission. Hopefully this will turn around a series that seemed to have been rudderless.

Here is the preview for next week and we get a sense of just what could happen if Lucifer doesn't get his wings back.
