Jason Momoa Basically Is Aquaman In Real Life
The choice of Jason Momoa to play Aquaman in the DC Cinematic universe may have been unexpected at first, possibly because Jason Momoa's Aquaman looks like he should actually be playing King Triton in Rob Zombie's remake of The Little Mermaid.
However, with an appearance in Batman v. Superman under his belt, Momoa has had a chance to prove himself, with the Aquaman solo movie set to be released in 2018. Offering further proof that he was born to play the role, Momoa revealed in a recent interview (transcribed by ComicBook.com) that he is actually, in fact, basically Aquaman in real life:
How I identify with that is kind of being…a bit of an outcast. You see, he wasn't really too accepted…I wasn't too accepted. There weren't any races where I grew up. There's no Chinese, no Mexican, no Black. I grew up in Iowa. I graduated with like 100 people. I was born in Hawaii, so I would go see my father…[I] just wasn't accepted on the local side by some people because I wasn't raised in Hawaii. I identify as being that outcast and not really fitting into two different worlds.
That's almost exactly like Aquaman, who is half-human, half-Atlantean, and similarly pulled between two worlds. Now, if Jason Momoa can just learn to do this by 2018…
…then he'll be, without question, the greatest live-action Aquaman of all time.
