Justice League: Ezra Miller And Gal Gadot Talk Steppenwolf And Solo Features
Justice League finally comes out this week, which means you can't turn a corner without running into some sort of promo. This time we have a nice, long interview with Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller in the Toronto Sun talking about Steppenwolf as a villain, Joss Whedon taking over post-production, and their solo movies.
Steppenwolf is one of the oldest villains for the Justice League, and Miller thinks that's what makes him a good foe for them to face off against in this movie:
"You know Steppenwolf is this ancient mythical force of evil. So he's a deeply exciting character to have face off against the Justice League. In the comic books, the Justice League has often come together to deal with (alien) invasions. The origin story of the Justice League in the original comic book series dealt with them fighting off the Appellaxians. So Steppenwolf's a great character for the team to go up against."
The other DC movies had multiple villains, while Justice League only has one. Gadot believes that was the right call, considering the circumstances of bringing in new characters:
"When you simplify a story, especially the ones we're exploring in the Justice League, where there's so much going on with the villain and the end of the world and the fact that we're introducing three new characters, I think it was a smart call to limit the villain to just one person."
As always, someone brought up Whedon and what he brought to the production. Miller commented:
"Zack put eight years of work into this and in the absence of our beloved captain, Joss very generously volunteered to complete Zack's vision. Really, we all wanted to fulfill that."
Gadot went on to say:
"I think Joss definitely left his mark on the movie."
Miller has been very vocal about how excited he was to take on the role of Barry Allen, and that comes down to just seeing the costume itself:
"It's been an honour to be a part of such an incredible legacy of such wonderful stories. I was excited when I first even saw a computer-generated image of the suit. Every stage of this has been truly magical for me."
The Flash solo movie is considered the "troubled" production of the DC Extended Universe so far. It has lost several directors and got a page one rewrite, but Miller assures fans that Flashpoint is coming:
"It's coming up. We are getting ready. It's been a long process to make sure we'll get it right, but Warner Bros. is being very careful with it and that's something I feel really honoured by and it's something I appreciate. But I'm stoked to get going. I can't reveal specifics, but it is coming up really soon."
Wonder Woman has been recently named the highest-grossing superhero origin movie and is now getting a Oscar push. Gadot still can't believe all of it is really happening:
"It's been an unbelievable experience that's still going. I started to portray this character three years ago and I feel like I've been going non-stop. Since its release, I've done Q&A's and screenings — all for Wonder Woman! When I first saw it, I told Patty (Jenkins) that she'd done a magnificent job. She's such an amazing conductor and she managed to create something that's really unique and I'm proud to be a part of that."
We can hope Justice League does as good of a job with this character as the solo movie did.
Summary: Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.
Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder, stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, and Henry Cavill. It will be released on November 17th.
