Maleficent 2 Begins Production – See the First Behind-the-Scenes Photos

It seems that the ball for Maleficent 2 is rolling a lot faster than we thought it would. The movie finally got some movement this year after nothing for years and now it looks like production as begun. The official Disney Twitter account shared three pictures, including a look at stars Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning goofing off around set.

The picture has also confirmed the name of Michelle Pfeiffer's character, Queen Ingrith, and Entertainment Weekly has a brief summary of what we can expect from this sequel.

Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning are both reprising their roles, and the new film picks up several years after the original, following Maleficent and Princess Aurora as they "form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within."

EW has also confirmed that Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville are all returning, and the role of Prince Phillip, Aurora's love interest in the original movie but not so much in Maleficent, has been recast with Harris Dickinson.

Maleficent 2, directed by Joachim Rønning, stars Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Ed Skrein, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Jenn Murray. We don't have a release date yet, but with the production starting now we can guess that we're looking a mid to late 2019 to an early 2020 release date.
