Is Manu Bennett Trolling Arrow Fans… Or Has This Just Gotten Awkward?
When word came out yesterday that Manu Bennett was going to be reprising his role as Slade Wilson / Deathstroke for the Arrow season finale, I mentioned that I was a bit surprised because Bennett appeared to be displeased with the writer's of the show after the way Deathstroke was written the last time he was on there. Bennett has not returned to play the role since, though the masked character did return for the alien created world episode during the crossover.
A second reason I was surprised is that Bennett is currently in Auckland filming the second season of the Shannara Chronicles.
But Stephen Amell posted a welcome back to Bennett and executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed the return…. so why is Bennett making these tweets?
How can this be? Was there a falling out after the announcement? Did Arrow producers plan to fool us into thinking that it's Bennett?
My guess is that Bennett is telling the truth. That is not him in the pictures and he is not going back for Arrow. But that is not saying he won't appear in the episode. Since Deathstroke is covered with a helmet, it's easy to use a stunt man in his place than having the actor on set all that time. As for the scenes where Bennett would have his helmet off, the production could go to him in Auckland… or they could use a local film crew to shoot Bennett's coverage while filming the rest in Vancouver and putting them together.
I seriously doubt that Amell and Guggenheim would announce Bennett's return if it wasn't official. I think this is a case of Bennett having fun with his fans. Or at least one can hope.
