Mike Mignola Praises How Hellboy Holds Good Samaritan in New Photo

Hellboy comic creator Mike Mignola has some opinions on the new film starring David Harbour as Big Red, and he's not afraid to tweet about it. Just this morning, it was a shared thought about a new image from the Lionsgate reboot, featuring Hellboy's signature giant gun, The Good Samaritan.

"Some people are going to love this movie and some have already decided they hate it, but one thing is for sure–That is exactly how I always imagined Hellboy would hold a gun. #hellboy #hellboymovie

Anytime a reboot or recasting happens, there will of course be comparisons to the previous performance. Harbour told Empire Magazine back in February that his version of Hellboy wasn't going to be an imitation of Ron Pearlman's:

"[Perlman] does something quite extraordinary in those films that is very specific to him, and I did not want to imitate that in any way. In our movie Hellboy's younger. He's rougher. He's much more of a teenager. He's really struggling with the idea of whether or not he's a good person.

Hellboy is fundamentally a sweet-hearted guy but also a big old killer, just whacking people. We explore the horror of what it must be like to be from hell and to struggle to find your place among human beings."

We did find out the film will be rated R, for "strong bloody violence and gore throughout, and language."

David Harbour stars as Big Red, Milla Jovovich as Nimue the Blood Queen, Ian McShane as Trevor Brutteholm director of the agency and Hellboy's adoptive father, Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimio BPRD fellow agent, Thomas Haden Church as Lobster Johnson, and Sarah Lane as Alice Monaghan, a woman who in the comics Big Red rescued from fairies during her infancy. Neil Marshall is directing.

Hellboy hits theaters on April 12th, 2019.
