Mission: Impossible 8 Has Been Delayed To Summer 2025

Paramount Pictures has delayed Mission: Impossible 8 from summer 2024 to summer 2025.

The hits keep coming for the Mission: Impossible franchise. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One can only be called The COVID Canary in the Coalmine because it was the first production that shut down due to the virus at the end of February 2020. It had a hard time getting back on its feet and had to restart production several times, which ballooned the budget, so by the time the film finally came out in July, it needed to do gangbusters, and it just didn't quite get there. It was a movie where half a billion is considered an underperformance. Now, the eighth film and the follow-up to Dead Reckoning Part One has also been hit with delays. This time, however, it was avoidable because it was due to the ongoing strikes and studios not wanting to pay writers and actors livable wages. These films require a lot of post-production work, so it isn't surprising that Variety is reporting that the next Mission: Impossible film is moving from June 28, 2024, to May 23, 2025.

Mission: Impossible 8 isn't the only film that has been delayed. The prequel film, A Quiet Place: Day One, is also moving but not by nearly as much. It is moving from March 8, 2024, to June 28, 2024, taking the spot previously held by Mission: ImpossibleIf, a fantasy comedy directed by John Krasinski that stars Ryan Reynolds, Krasinski, Alan Kim, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is moving from May 24, 2024, to May 17, 2024. As Variety notes, this gives the film more breathing room as the 24th is packed with lots of big releases like Furiosa, Garfield, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Considering that many of those films are sequels, part of franchises, or recognizable IP, it is smart not to put something original against that. As studios continue refusing to pay actors livable wages and not giving them control of their likeness, the release calendar for 2024 and 2025 will likely continue to shift. We are only a few weeks away from films dated in the summer being unable to finish in time, so studios will have to choose between delaying films or ending the strike. Union strong.
