During the awards season, you'll see titles show up on ballots of films that you've never heard of, but apparently, they are something you should be paying attention to because they are ending up on all of the ballots. Robot Dreams is one of those films. This has been a spectacular year for animation in general and between big franchise films like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem to the latest from Studio Ghibli, The Boy and the Heron, to Netflix finally releasing Nimona, which nearly didn't happen due to the Fox buyout. It's been an excellent year, and for another film to even make it onto an already extremely strong radar says a lot about the movie. NEON picked up the US distribution rights for Robot Dreams at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and the Spanish film, even though it doesn't have dialogue, has gotten international releases with critical acclaim. However, we don't have a US date just yet; however, it should be coming soon. NEON dropped the film's first teaser, poster, and summary today, and it looks like something special.

Based on the popular graphic novel by the North American writer Sara Varon, Robot Dreams tells the story of the adventures and misfortunes of Dog and Robot. Dog lives in Manhattan, and he's tired of being alone, so one day, he decides to build himself a robot, a companion. Their friendship blossoms, and they become inseparable. One summer night, Dog, with great sadness, is forced to abandon Robot at the beach. As time passes and life continues to develop in unexpected ways, their paths through the world diverge. But can fate bring Dog and Robot back together again? Robot Dreams is directed and written by Pablo Berger and produced by Ibon Cormenzana, Ignasi Estapé, Sandra Tapia, Jérôme Vidal, and Pablo Berger.
