There is a pretty big release that is due out in just over six months that we haven't heard much of anything about: the reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, starring Academy Award-winning actress Alicia Vikander. Empire has released a new issue that has a preview of the fall, winter, and spring movies and with that comes a feature from the new Tomb Raider. We have a new picture of Vikander as Lara Croft, looking very much like the current version of her video game counterpart:
"We asked, 'What are the famous traits of this person?'" recalls Vikander in the new issue. "'How can we demonstrate them in the story, but make her feel like a young woman in 2018?'"
Tomb Raider is one of many major productions that could get lost in the extremely packed schedule of 2018. While there isn't anything dictating that movies must have a trailer X many months before the movie comes out, the longer they stay silent, the better chance people will forget about it. There has been no marketing and no hype for this movie, aside from a few images. The trailer should be on the way very soon, and then we'll have a better idea of what kind of movie this is going to be.
Summary: Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she finds herself on the island where her father disappeared.
Tomb Raider, directed by Roar Uthaug, stars Alicia, Vikander, Walton Goggins, Dominic West, Hannah John-Kamen, and Daniel Wu. It will be released on March 18th, 2018.
