New Thor: Ragnarok International Trailer
Coming out of Marvel Studio's San Diego Comic Con panel is the new international trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the God of Thunder, himself, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk, Tess Thompson as Valkyrie, and Kate Blanchett as Hela, the Goddess of Death.
The style of the trailer gives off this mid-80's sci-fi vibe thanks to the neon logos and synth music running in the background. The visuals themselves are a little to sleek and fantasy-inspired to back up that idea. It seems like this movie is taking a lot of its cues from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy films without understanding how the visuals work with the soundtrack to create that aesthetic.
A lot of the trailer is Thor and Banner/Hulk chatting and catching up since the last time they saw one another. Thor explains what happened with his hammer and Hela, which we saw in the first trailer. There is a lot of humor and one-liners. Asgard is focused upon more than the desert world from before. We get to see Valkyrie's armor, and there is a shot of Loki chained up in an apartment.
Thor says he needs to put together a team to stop Ragnarok, the end of everything. To this end, Valkyrie, Hulk, and Loki seem to be his solution. Idris Elba's Heimdall is shown, and someone who appears to be Korg from Planet Hulk makes a brief appearance. Goldblum's Grandmaster and Urban's Skurge, the Executioner, are shown in short shots as well.
This looks like a real fun one. I don't dislike the Thor films as much as most, but it's hard to deny that they've been by far the weakest of the Marvel Studios films thus far. Ragnarok seems intent on redressing that issue.
