New 'War For The Planet Of The Apes' Video Shows Off What A Talent Andy Serkis Is

Andy Serkis does not get nearly enough credit for the work he does because it's motion capture. There have been a couple of behind-the-scenes videos from War for the Planet of the Apes showing off what a talent Serkis is and 20th Century Fox posted another one.

The thing that's really kind of amazing about this video is that Serkis is so compelling on screen despite the fact that motion capture suits make everyone looks utterly ridiculous. There are some people who think motion capture isn't real acting but the way this video fades from Serkis' performance to Caesar's face on screen shows how much of the actor goes into motion capture. Serkis and other actors continue to legitimize the medium every time they make audiences empathize with inhuman characters. It's an art and one that we can only hope will get the recognition it deserves.

The good news is War for the Planet of the Apes looks amazing and we're getting more Serkis' talent this year. He'll be returning for more motion capture in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and we get to see the man in the flesh when he plays Ulysses Klaue in Black Panther in February.

Summary: After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.

War for the Planet of the Apes is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval, Judy Greer, and Terry Notary. It will be released on July 14th.
