It's very clear that Blumhouse isn't a stranger to success in the horror genre, having turned several projects into full-fledged franchises over the years. So, if given the opportunity, of course, one of the key creatives attached to the studio's recent release, Night Swim, would be open to revisiting this world for more pool-focused trauma, right?
Night Swim Director Has Ideas for Establishing Franchise Mythology
When speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the likelihood of seeing a Night Swim 2, the film's director Bryce McGuire tells the publication, "Look, if there were to be a sequel, I do have an idea, and there's lots more of the mythology. I just wanted this first one to be so simple and archetypal. There's lots more that has already been discussed and could have been in the movie that I would love to get to explore if people want more."
While previously discussing the transition from a short film to a feature film, the director explained, "So that short, we made that short a long time ago, eight years ago now. It got sent around town. A lot of people were interested and, you know, wanted to know what the concept was, but the feature was, and for a long time, I just was like, I'm not, I don't know, I think a short's a short. And then I had this idea that kind of broke all that open for me, and it was like, no, this has to be a feature. This is a feature's worth story. There's a feature-level mystery here, feature-level concept that I knew then I could take that pitch out."
Excluding marketing expenses, the film has already managed to earn its production budget back. However, if we're talking about entering franchise territory, the film has to prove that there's more fan demand in the coming weeks. Would you like to see a Night Swim 2?
