No In Credit Scene For Star Wars: The Force Awakens
There was a Star Wars: The Force Awakens press conference held this afternoon with the majority of the cast along with J J Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy. The one glaring omission on the guest list was Mark Hamill. The press conference was not big on breaking news. Mostly the questions focused on why actor returned to classic characters, their favorite parts of the original trilogy and if there was any romance in the film… which Oscar Isaac talked about something with BB-8.
Putting the humor aside, these are the highlights from the event.
Maz Kanata (Lupita Kyong'o), the thousand-year old space pirate who now runs a bar came across Yoda at some point in her life… but we won't see that in this film according to director J J Abrams.
Adam Driver likens Star Wars to the real world: "We have such short memories of huge events, and mass genocide, and then we forget about it, it seems. Then it seems the same horrors repeat themselves. The heroes we know have evolved, but the problems they face are eternal. Finding these people, a lot of things have changed, but the circumstances are the same. I found that very true."
Abrams said that there is no extra credit scene.
According to Kathleen Kennedy, Jar Jar Binks is not in the movie. Nor are the Ewoks, Harrison Ford insisted on that.
Jon Boyega was asked about playing a black Stormtrooper: "I've got to be honest, I really don't care about the black Stormtrooper stuff. I coudln't care less. This is a movie about human beings, about Wookiees, spaceships and TIE Fighters. It's got an undercurrent of courage, a message of friendship and loyalty. I watched the movie with Kathy last week, and I really relate to Rey more than any of the characters. The circumstance to find something bigger than yourself is really important to me. In terms of the kids, all they're going to be concentrated on is BB-8."
Boyega's lightsaber is very similar to the one Luke Skywalker was using when he got his hand chopped off in Empire Strikes Back. But the actor did not confirm or deny the possibility it was the same one.
