Outlander's Sam Heughan Would Like To Be Doctor Who's Next Doctor

Here at Bleeding Cool, we strive to bring our readers the most interesting comic book news on the internet. To do that, we use cutting edge technology to locate the stories our readers most want to hear about, and then we investigate and report. One of the most important tools in our arsenal is our famous WHEEL OF STORIES, which has an uncanny ability to point us in the direction of the hottest industry gossip and breaking news.

The wheel has already given us one story today, the news that Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter is meeting with President Elect Donald Trump. Can we find success a second time? Let's spin the wheel and find out!

Is Peter Capaldi leaving Doctor Who? It's always a valid question, as he will have to leave the show eventually. Let's find out…

According to an interview running on Uproxx today, Capaldi isn't leaving Doctor Who… yet.

"I love Doctor Who and I love playing the Doctor, so I kind of don't like to think about a time beyond that," said Capaldi in the interview, which Uproxx says they conducted at New York Comic Con in October. "Clearly when that time comes, however, there are lots of other roles that I'd like to have crack at. I'd like to go back onto the stage for awhile. But we're very lucky with the people who make Doctor Who. We love it. There's so many people involved in the production of this show who absolutely love it, so it's always very difficult to think about not being a part of it. I try not to, at least."

Though Capaldi will be sticking around through the tenth season, airing in April, the eleventh season, the first by new showrunner Chris "Chinball" Chibnall, is still up in the air. Earlier this month, Capaldi said he hadn't decided whether he would return for that season, but later in the month, he said he wasn't planning to step down "for a long time." Until then, he must be considered Schrodinger's Capaldi, who will be both playing and not playing Doctor Who in Season 11 until the first episode airs and we find out which one.

If Capaldi were to leave, however, who might replace him?

samheughan

Well, Outlander star Sam Heughan would like it to be him. Heughan was tweeting about the Doctor Who Christmas Special, when a fan made the suggestion:

Heughan replied:

Outlander Season 3 is expected to hit Starz sometime in 2017.

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
