Revealed At Murder Trial, WWE Hall Of Famer "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka Has Six Months To Live
73-year-old wrestling legend Jimmy Snuka has six months to live, according to TMZ. Snuka, who was declared mentally incompetent to stand trial for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Nancy Argentino, in 1983, attend a hearing to see if his mental health status had changed via Skype from hospice care in Florida on Friday. During the hearing, Snuka's doctor revealed that Snuka is suffering from terminal cancer, and only has six months to live.
Argentino died of brain injuries in 1983 after Snuka called an ambulance to their hotel room following a wrestling event in Allentown, PA. Though authorities suspected foul play at the time, Snuka was never charged and the case was left open. Argentino's parents won a civil suit against Snuka in 1985, and in 2013, the case was reexamined by prosecutors. Snuka was charged with third degree murder in September of 2015, and declared incompetent to stand trial the following June.
A two time ECW Heavyweight Champion, Snuka never won a title in WWE during his 40 year pro wrestling career. Prior to the reemergence of the murder trial, Snuka was inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame in 1996. He most recently wrestled for the company in 2010 during an episode of "Old School Raw," and most recently anywhere in 2014. Along with a long-running feud with the late "Rowdy" Roddy Piper that saw Piper crack a coconut over Snuka's head during an episode of his "Piper's Pit" interview segment, Snuka's leap from the top of the steel cage at Madison Square Garden in 1982 was one of pro wrestling's most memorable "moments," though, like other wrestling stars whose actions outside the ring sullied their in-ring careers (such as Hulk Hogan and Chris Benoit), neither is brought up on WWE programming anymore. After his arrest, Snuka's WWE "Legend" contract was terminated, and Snuka's Hall of Fame page was removed from their website.
