Rian Johnson Comments On His New Trilogy Of Star Wars Movies
There have been quite a few huge news stories to come out about Star Wars this year but one of the bigger ones was the announcement that Rian Johnson would overseeing a new trilogy separate from anything we've seen before. He writing and directing the first movie and executive producing the other two. This news is still very new but while at the Mexico Pres Event
(via Heroic Hollywood) someone asked Johnson about his new trilogy.
"Well, we're gonna have to see. I mean, I'm just in the very beginning of starting to come up with what the new trilogy is going to be. But I can tell you this, what makes me so excited about it, is the idea of doing a new story on the big canvas of three movies in this world. There's just so much potential and I can't wait to jump into it."
Johnson was the frontrunner to take over Episode IX when Colin Trevorrow was let go from the production. He seemed like the obvious choice at the time; there hasn't been a peep of negative press about The Last Jedi, Johnson seemed keen to do another movie, and he'd spent the better part of the year winning fans over. We now know he turned Episode IX down because he got an even better deal; his own corner of the Star Wars universe to play in. Lucasfilm and Disney must be happy with what he's delivered in The Last Jedi. These three films are barely a thought in the creators mind and they already sound so up my ally. Bring it on Johnson.
Summary: Having taken her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Rey continues her epic journey with Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the saga, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson, stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, and Adam Driver. It will be released on December 15th.
