The Dark Souls Series Has Sold Over 8 Million Copies
From Software's Dark Souls series is a strange success. The franchise's achievements are more or less predicated on word of mouth yet it is so different from what we'd expect from a huge successful video game franchise. Clunky and slow in animation, no real narrative and geared heavily towards the hardcore gamer.
Successful it has been though. It was reported today by Famitsu, that a recent presentation showed that the series has sold 8 million copies across all of its games. Here is a nice picture breakdown.
It was revealed that Dark Souls and a version packed with all the DLC came in at just over 5 million sold. Dark Souls 2 and the Scholar of the First Sin edition came to around 2.5 million sold through. PC has been huge for the franchise too with 3.25 million copies being sold on the platform.
Dark Souls 3 is on the way early next year too. I do worry we are reaching peak Souls though and that we might see sales begin to wane fairly fast if we keep this rate up.
