The First Trailer for Sicario 2: Soldado Looks Like a Barrel of Laughs
Nah, just kidding, this is a Taylor Sheridan movie so of course it looks bleak as hell. Sicario 2, now known as Sicario, Day of the Soldado, dropped its first trailer recently and it gave us a good idea of what we can expect from this sequel to one of 2015's best movies.
So it sounds like gun-for-hire Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro) was brought in by Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) to help with a terrorist situation on the boarder. However, Gillick managed to get a hold of the daughter of the one of the leaders of the cartel (Isabela Moner from Transformers: The Last Knight) and when they decide she must be killed Gillick turns on his former comrades. This is a pretty common story when it comes to this sort of genre and it's dark which means it's right up Sheridan's alley. He isn't directing this one, though he did write it, and the directing duty had fallen to Stefano Sollima. We also got our first poster for the movie as well.
A barrel of laughs.
Sheridan is one of the best writers working in Hollywood right now and if you haven't checked out movies he has written in the past, such as the original Sicario, Hell or High Water or the movie he wrote and directed last year Wind River they are fantastic. They're also bleak as hell but the fact that the guy who played Deputy Chief David Hale in Sons of Anarchy has written some of the best films to come out in the last three years is weird.
The drug war on the US-Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver re-teams with the mercurial Alejandro.
Sicario, Day of the Soldado, directed by Stefano Sollima, stars Josh Brolin, Isabela Moner, Benicio Del Toro, Matthew Modine, and Jeffrey Donovan. It will be released June 29th.
